We are delighted to announce the 1st International Early-Career Researcher Conference in Hospitality and Tourism (IECRHT 2024) will be held in Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) from May 10-12, 2024. We now warmly invite scholars in the field of hospitality and tourism management to actively submit papers to this conference. This conference aims to provide a platform for postgraduate students and early-career researchers to expand their research, network with the excellent scholars, and disseminate knowledge addressing the developmental opportunities and challenges in the global hospitality and tourism management. Whether you are a student, an academic, or a practitioner, this conference offers you a unique opportunity to interact with hundreds of colleagues from around the world.

 

We value the high-quality research article which investigates the important questions and reports the interesting findings in the field of hospitality and tourism management. We accept both conceptual and empirical articles and welcome both quantitative and qualitative research.  

 

The field of Hospitality management mainly convers the following areas: hotel and lodging management, food and beverage management, service management, human resources management in the hospitality industry, financial management and cost control for hospitality organizations, ethical concerns in marketing and management, and sustainable practices within the hospitality industry. Tourism management mainly covers the following areas: marketing strategy in tourism industry, digital transformations in tourism, smart tourism, tourism and economy, entrepreneurship and innovation in tourism, destination marketing and management, new business models in tourism, sustainable and responsible tourism, climate change impacts on tourism, and tourism politics and crisis management.

KEYNOTE  SPEAKERS

Gabby Walters

Associate Professor, School of Business, The University of Queensland

Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Vacation Marketing

Dr Gabby Walters is an Associate Professor with the University of Queensland’s Business School and Deputy Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. She holds significant expertise in consumer behaviour with a specialisation in tourism and travel. She is highly recognised for her research in crisis recovery and how crises influence travel planning and decision making, risk mitigation behaviour and market sentiment more generally. She has conducted numerous consultancies and projects with tourism industry organisations from different parts of the world seeking to enhance or revitalise their reputations and regain trust among the tourism market as a result one or many critical events. She has a well-established publication record in the field with over 60 academic publications including journal articles, co-authored books and book chapters. Dr Walters is the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Vacation Marketing, a Q1 - A ranked journal within the Business and Tourism fields. She was also one of the founding researchers in the application of neuromarketing techniques to the tourism field and is globally recognised for her expertise in this area. 

Ben K. GOH

 

Professor,  Dean of Faculty of Hospitality and tourism Management, Macau University of Science and Technology

Prof. Goh has over 30 years of teaching and research experience in hospitality and tourism management discipline, he started teaching at Texas Tech University since 1989, and got his doctorate degree at Nova Southeastern University in the U.S. Prof. Goh was appointed to several administrative roles during his career at both Texas Tech University and Oklahoma State University. He served as Associate Dean in the College of Human Sciences and Director of School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Oklahoma State University.

Prof. Goh has served as reviewer for various hospitality research journals and has participated in research of the industry and consulted with numerous companies through U.S. and Asia. He has maintained close contact with industry professionals and has served as Board Member of Oklahoma Hotel and Lodging Association, Oklahoma Restaurant Association and is one of the founding board members of the Hospitality Educator Association of Texas. Prof. Goh has been honored with many awards including the Fulbright Scholar award in recognition of his achievements.

Jinsoo Lee

 

Professor, School of Hotel and Tourism Management, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Managing Editor, Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing

Prof. Jinsoo Lee is a Professor in the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He currently serves as a coordinating editor of International Journal of Hospitality Management and the managing editor of Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing while actively engaging in the research areas of sustainability, event management, and hospitality & tourism marketing. He is recognized among world’s top 2% scientists for the year of 2022 in the field of sport, leisure and tourism according to the number of citations of published research papers from Elsevier Data Repository. 

Qiu Hanqin

 

Distinguished Professor,  Dean of International School of Cultural Tourism of Hangzhou City University 

Professor Hanqin Qiu is currently the Dean and Distinguished Professor at International School of Cultural Tourism in Hangzhou City University China. She once served as a tenured professor of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Dean of the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University. She is the Academic member of China Tourism Academy, Vice President of UNESCO Hong Kong Association, and Quality Assessor of The University Grants Committee for Hong Kong government. She is also the council member of HKCAAVQ since 2019. She has published more than 100 high-quality papers in major international journals of tourism and hospitality management. She is a regular speaker at major international conferences.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  1. Abstracts (300-500 words) should be submitted to the conference committee at FHTMConference@must.edu.mo by 19 April 2024.  

  2. Please clearly indicate authors information (name, affiliation, and contact email) in a separate page. That is, page 1 includes author information, and page 2 includes title, abstract, and keywords.

  3. Papers will be accepted either in English or Chinese.

  4. For each submission, please ensure that at least one of the authors is a graduate student or an early career researcher (less than six years of working experience), regardless of the order of authorship.

PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITIES

We will select some of the best papers from this conference. The selected papers will be fast-tracked through the peer review process in International Journal of Tourism Research (SSCI; impact factor is 4.737). Details of publication opportunities in this journal will be announced later.

Note:

  1. Registration fees include conference meals, gala dinner, conference proceedings, and participation in all conference activities. Transportation and accommodation are excluded.

  2. The exchange rate between RMB and MOP is 1:1.

  3. If four or more delegates from the same institution/university are attending, the institution/university will be listed as an official sponsor of the conference.

  4. The name and emblem of the institution/university will be also presented on the conference website and in the proceedings.

Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) is established in 2000 and has become one of the most competitive universities among all the young universities in the world. It currently has more than 20,000 full-time students. Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management is one of the largest and fastest growing faculties in the world. There are more than 50 faculty members from different nationalities in our faculty.

 

Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) is situated in a convenient location. In terms of transport, there is a station of Macau Light Rapid Transit (MUST station) just outside the campus. Also, it is only a five-minute drive from MUST to Macau international airport. In terms of accommodation, MUST is surrounded by several upscale hotels, such as The Venetian, MGM, and Wynee Palace. Besides, there are also many other star-rated hotels to choose from.
